I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 208

Chapter 208 Eleanor's Relationship With Jennifer

"I can't handle it, so stop coming to me. As for Grandma, I will take responsibility. After all, she has always been by my side, helping me grow. To me, she's not just my grandma; she's my parents. So, blood relation or not, I don't care!"

Harper finished speaking and ignored Jack.

Seeing her attitude, Jack was furious and stormed over to the desk, glaring at her. He asked angrily, "Harper, is this how you respect your father?" "What do you expect me to do? Be like Kimberly, acting like a princess without a care or pressure in the world. Have you ever given me a chance?"

It was the first time Harper voiced her deep-seated thoughts so bluntly, showing she no longer cared, or else she wouldn't have spoken so freely.

But Jack still believed they, as parents, were right, and the wrong was with Harper for her disobedience and for not valuing the Mitchell family.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

No matter what he said, it was like hammering mercilessly on a pillow, with no response at all. In the end, Jack could only glare at Harper fiercely and say, "Harper, do you think you would have a place in the Martin family without the Mitchell family?"

After speaking, Jack's face was filled with rage as he stormed off.

Harper's argument with Jack inevitably reached the ears of others in the company. Just after Jack left, Sophia came in and asked, "Ms. Mitchell, are you alright?"

Harper offered a faint, shallow smile. "I'm fine, go on with your work, don't worry about me."

Sophia hummed in acknowledgment, then left the office, closing the door behind her.

Harper sat in her office chair, and her feelings were indescribable.

She had always thought that Eleanor cared for her because of Jennifer as if to relieve her own daughter's burden. But now she realized that wasn't the case.

Her lips curled into a bitter, cold smile, and she couldn't help but ask herself, "Why can someone with no relation to me offer such love, yet my parents can be so heartless?" Harper's eyes narrowed, her expression growing colder.

Since Eleanor had been so attentive to her, Harper felt compelled to reciprocate in kind.

That very afternoon, Harper

contacted Eleanor's caretaker to

have her brought to Mayby. Concerned that her apartment was too small and noisy for Eleanor, she rented an additional apartment right across the hall on the same floor for more accessible care.

Through conversations with Eleanor, Harper learned about her relationship with Jennifer. Eleanor was Jennifer's stepmother, the second wife of Harper's grandfather, following the early death of Jennifer's biological mother. Eleanor had never had children of her own out of consideration for Jennifer and Julie's mother. A fact that had

seldom been mentioned over the

years.

Worried that Eleanor might be

troubled by these thoughts, Harper

assured her earnestly, "No matter what you relationship is with them, in my heart, you'll always be my dear grandmother. So please feel comfortable living here without any burden, okay?"

Eleanor smiled, clearly pleased, yet she responded, "I'm just an old woman. It's still not convenient for me to stay here."

"Whatever you need, just tell me, and I'll take care of it. Also, I insist on taking you to the hospital for a check-up in the next few days. No arguments!"

Harper was firm, and Eleanor didn't say anything, her worn face marked by hesitation. She didn't want to be a burden to Harper by staying there.
