I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 142

Chapter 142 His Wrath

He asserted himself with an uncompromising tone, refusing any discussion or rebuttal. Without waiting for Harper's reply, he abruptly ended the call.

Tossing his phone onto the desk, he loosened his tie with forceful movements of his sharply defined fingers, his eyes growing intensely gloomy. Casting a cold glance at Curtis, he commanded, "Go to the Martin Manor and have my mother find out what Harper really wants."

"Why is she so insistent on the divorce?

Is it simply because I don't love her?

Is love truly that important?

Am I not enough for her?" Benjamin had many questions in his mind.

Benjamin's eyes darkened further as he glanced at the divorce agreement on the desk. He tore it into shreds, tossing them into the trash can.

With determined strides, he left the office to attend the meeting.

Curtis followed behind, catching a glimpse of the torn pieces in the trash can. The word "divorce" left him stunned and incredulous, but he dared not ask anything, quickly following Benjamin out. The entire morning was fraught with tension at the Martin Group.

Benjamin unleashed a tirade during the meeting due to last quarter's financial oversight, an error in decimal placement that resulted in Martin Group losing nearly ten million dollars in taxes.

Benjamin scanned the several financial directors with a piercing gaze, his expression devoid of warmth as he demanded, "Am I paying you to create problems for me? If you're not committed, pack up and leave! If you're serious about work, then show me your dedication!"

Everyone kept their heads down, afraid to speak.

Benjamin stood with his hands on his hips in anger. He barked sharply. "Who among you can bear this loss? Tell me."Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

The heads lowered even further.

The chief financial director, sweating profusely, admitted in a trembling voice, "Mr. Martin, it was indeed our oversight. All the accounts could have been corrected if we had noticed earlier, so could you give us another chance?"

"I'm giving you a chance now. Who's going to take responsibility, you or me?" Benjamin's voice was cold.

The chief financial officer remained silent.

Then Benjamin picked up the file in front of him and threw it at them. "If it hadn't been discovered in time, do you think you'd still have the chance to stand here and speak to me?"

The problem had been discovered because before the Martin Group's quarterly tax filing, there were several steps. First, the company's finances were reviewed internally by the team, then by the financial directors, and finally, the mysterious auditor who had always been abroad.

No one knew who the auditor was, but they provided the Martin Group with many financial suggestions and support.

The several financial directors were now terrified, offering profuse apologies and assurances.

Benjamin grew increasingly impatient, and then Curtis' voice sounded. "Mr. Martin, Ms. Davis is calling."

"Am I free? Do I have to handle every call personally? Then what's your role, Curtis? Are you not interested in working here anymore?"

"Mr. Martin, I understand what to do now. Rest assured, I will handle it well." After speaking, Curtis immediately left the office with his phone and promptly declined Lauren's call.

Benjamin was irritated by the sight of the people in front of him and waved his hand, signaling for them all to leave.

After a while, Curtis returned.

Benjamin said calmly, "Investigate the social circles and backgrounds of these people. Find out whether this error was an accident or intentional."
