His Cure

Make me your coffee

..

Seconds upon seconds, minutes upon minutes, hours upon hours, that was how Sunday slips by, paving a way for Monday.

Beatrice stayed in her room for the remaining hours the other day.

She only went out to grab a snack to stuff her mouth with and she returned to the room after that.

Quite surprising, there was no words or any of the likes from Gregory.

The most shocking case is Jennifer.

News of their marriage should have gotten to her by now but she chose to remain still?

Being a typical writer, that shakes her off a bit.

Have they been murdered?

That’s the only thinking that makes sense for their muteness.

“Hahaha.. then I won’t be here.”she replied herself.

She went to drew the curtains apart and she closed her eyes partly as the bright hot sun hits her face.

“Coffee..”she mumbled out.

“With plenty iced cubes.”she smiles into the sun cake.

“I will stay under you this pretty sun and sip out of my cold coffee quietly.”she chuckled.

She opened her half – closed eyes and breath out a sigh.

She is not at ease but she can’t just figure out what is boggling her mind.

She went down to make herself a cup of tea.

She decanted the warm water from the kettle inside the ceramic glass cup and drop some tea bags inside.

She added few spoons of sugar and finally, milk.

“Didn’t you said you didn’t like milk?. Was that a lie?”Gregory scoffs while coming inside the kitchen.

“I didn’t know you took that to heart.”she retorts while stirring the tea with a stainless steel spoon.

She raised the cup up to her lips and drank from it.

Gregory rested his back on the fridge and crossed his arms over his broad chest.

“Did.. you, perhaps, did you did anything to Jennifer yesterday that made her pack out?.. I mean, she left..”he scrubbed his cheek.

Beatrice’s eyes rolled to his side.

“She has left?. No wonder the house was awfully quiet yesterday. Well, if you did care about her, why acting like you didn’t?, and..”

“I don’t know when she left. I’ve not been out of my room since we got back from..”

“Have a nice day, Mr Gregory.”she carried her cup and ambled out of the room.

She definitely wasn’t in for his talks that morning.

“We have a conference meeting to attend today.”he said after her.

She stopped dead in her track and spun around, pressing her angry stare on him.

“You know, you are one selfish guy. You keep making plans, and keep making me to oblige. Oh, right, fine, i do agree that you’re prosperous but that doesn’t mean you have to be a preposterous being! Listen, Mr Gregory. I am a legal citizen of this country and, I know my legal right. I won’t..”

“Why do I have a feeling that you would still accept this even after your long speech?, tsk!”he cuts in.

“It’s quite a life – changer deal for you and you don’t have to do much than attend meetings with me and all other pretense and then after a year, you go your way and I go my way. I don’t know if you know this but these cops that you’re putting so much hope on are more corrupted than you could ever think. Try going to a station to place a complain and see what happens after that.”he steps out of the kitchen and twinkled his eyes.

“Author, do you know why I like coffee?”he asks, all of a sudden.

Beatrice puts on a frown and tightened her hold on the cup.

“Because it helps to reduce stress. So, why won’t you make me your coffee, Beatrice?”he grins.

She bit her lips down and crushed her teeth.

“Maybe you’re forgetting something. I don’t like milk so I can never enjoy my coffee.”

“But you do?. You just added some in your tea.”

“I like it in my tea but not in my coffee.”

“Oops, you can chose to have your coffee without milk, that doesn’t imply that it won’t be tasty.”Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

She moved towards the staircase, without saying any word.

“The conference is happening this morning. Get yourself prepared. Don’t say I didn’t tell you in advance.”

“Damn you.”she cursed beneath her breath and sauntered to her room.

..

Oscar brushed inside Henry’s in – house office and bowed.

“Good morning, sir.”

“Etiquette, Oscar. No knocks?”

“I.. couldn’t wait to give you the feedback from the assignment you gave me yesterday. I’m sorry for the intrusion, sir. I will go back and knock.”he made to turn.

“You’re in already. So, what is it?”

“It turns out miss Beatrice is an author, sir. She just got to his house few days ago and don’t think that should be enough days to make them fall in love and want to marry each other. It’s probably a sham.”

Henry whoops up in soft laughter and removed his glasses.

“Gregory is sure a wonder kid. He dare to deceive the people?. You’ve done well, Oscar. You’ve done well!”

Oscar smiles and bowed.

“Thank you for the compliment, sir.”

“Leak this secret to one of our trusted reporters. The conference is going to be very interesting this morning. It’s been long since I last have my fun.”he commanded.

Oscar nodded reluctantly.

“But.. sir, it could really damage his..”

“Just listen to me, boy. I made him, and when he crumbles, I will remake him. I have my hesitations too but, that’s the only way to discipline him.”

..

Beatrice dressed up in a long flowery gown that has a cut up from her thighs down ankles.

The upper part is an off shoulder with a short ball sleeve.

She lets down her hair and sat in front of the mirror.

She has her hesitations.

Is this really a good idea?

Once in, she is afraid she won’t be able to go back again.

The image of her mother’s melancholic face creeps inside her head and she shuts her eyes.

She grabbed her glossy lipstick and added some on her lips then pursed them together.

She gave a nervous smile at her beautiful self in the mirror.

“You’ve got this, Beatrice. You can do it.”she heaved out a sigh.

She stood up and exit the room.

She walked out of the house and found Gregory there in his sport car waiting for her.

When she got to the car, the door automatically opens.

She puffed out air before getting inside, beside him.

This had better be good.

“You look like a real girlfriend.”

“Is that a compliment?. Since this is just an act, shouldn’t I be a better actress?”

“It’s a good review.”
