“We find love in unexpected places, trust me” Rita remarked after she and children had just finished watching a love movie.
“Oh wow, so that’s how you met dad, in an unexpected place?” The sharp little boy who was named, Anthony blurted.
Rita laughed softly as she snuggled deeper into the couch cushions, her kids perched on either side of her. “Indeed it was, my darling angels. Your father and I met at the same place of work” She briefly told them.
The little boy furrowed his brow, still struggling to comprehend how his parents’ love story began in such a mundane.
“Actually, we met before we met” Rita said, even making things more complicated for the children.
“Mom, I’m still having trouble picturing this,” the little girl named Lily, who looked like her mom chipped in. “What kind of workplace was it? How do you mean you met him before you met him? What does that even mean?” She questioned.
“And how did you two even start talking?” Anthony added.
The little children questioned her.
Rita chuckled at her children’s growing confusion. “It’s okay, it’s a bit complicated, but I’ll try my best to explain. So we met through an online matchmaker, her name was Janet Johnson and the platform was Kikachat, I doubt if you know anything about the platform. We dated without even knowing each other. We loved each other but physically and on the online platform”
Rita smiled, remember everything that had happened between she and Finn, thick and tough, ups and downs.
“Kikachat” Lily muttered “What a funny name”
While the little boy stared at his mother, his eyes wide with amazement. “You mean, you were dating Dad without actually seeing him in person? And you didn’t even know what he looked like?”
Lily chimed in, equally incredulous. “And you fell in love with each other without ever an actual physical meeting?”
Rita nodded, a wistful smile on her face. “It sounds crazy, I know. But love doesn’t always follow a straight path. It can surprise you in unexpected ways. And in our case, it happened online and like I just said, we find love in unexpected places.”
Lily was also curious. “And how did Dad react when he finally saw you?”
“The rest is history” Rita said, bringing the conversation to an end.
“We’ll love to hear more” Their minds became grappled with the concept of love.
“Why do you even ask about how your dad and I met?” Rita crossed her arms and questioned them instead.
Anthony and Lily exchanged a glance before Anthony made up his mind to respond, a hint of shyness in his voice.
“Well, we just…” he trailed off, a slight blush rising in his cheeks.
“He has a crush on Elsa” Lily finished for him.
Elsa is Evelyn and Adam’s daughter.
Rita’s eyes widened in amusement, her face breaking into a mischievous grin.
“Ah! I see,” Rita said, her voice full of mirth. “So, my little cupid-in-training, you think that by learning the secrets of your parents’ love story, you’ll be able to unlock the code to Elsa’s heart, is that it?” She teased him.
“No, Lily you promised to tell no one about it” Her brother shunned. Rita playfully nudged him in the ribs, sending him into a fit of embarrassed laughter while Lily giggled, trying to contain her amusement.
Then the door opened, their father, Finn has just returned from work.
The kids ran to embrace him.
Finn returned the embrace with warmth, his arms wrapping tightly around his children. He laughed as they clung to him, their tiny arms barely reaching halfway around his broad frame. “Hey, kiddos. What’s got you two so excited today?” he asked, still grinning.
Rita rose from the couch and made her way towards the group hug, a playful smile on her face “I told them a beautiful story”
“Yes, mom told us about how the two of you fell in love” Lily interfered.
“She said you dated without knowing eachother yet” The boy added.
Finn looked over at Rita, a twinkle in his eye. “Did you give away all our secrets, my love?”
Rita chuckled; “Hmmn well, not exactly”
“We promise to let them know the full gist once they both turn 16 years old”
“They’ll find out the ones that doesn’t make us look like a complete sap when they turn 16” Rita responded.
They understood each other perfectly.
“What are you both talking about?” Little Finn tried to poke nose.
Finn laughed, pulling his kids in for another big hug but after secret exchanging knowing glances, Rita and Finn glanced down at their kids, still full of curiosity. “Well, little ones, that’s all we’re willing to divulge for now. But we promise you that when the time is right, we’ll tell you the whole story,” Rita said, placing a hand gently on each of their heads.
“You mean when we’re 16?” Lily asked, a hint of impatience in her voice.
Finn chuckled. “That’s right. 16 years old, and not a day before.
Finn gave each of his kids a playful squeeze before they wriggled free, darting off to play in their rooms. Rita watched them go, a fond smile on her face.
“Can you believe how grown up they are?” she asked Finn, her voice full of wonder.
He slid an arm around her waist, pulling her close. “I know. It seems like just yesterday they were learning to crawl, and now they’re trying to find out how we fell in love. Time sure flies, doesn’t it?”
Rita smiled and nodded. They have been through alot but look at them now.
And so, with a deep sense of contentment, the happy family settled into their cozy home, their hearts full of love and laughter. Who knows what
adventures await them in the future, but for now, all is well.
