Chapter 12: Heat
Chapter 12: Heat
(Ashely's POV)
My mom closed the door behind her as she walked further into the room. I sat on the edge of my bed
waiting for her to get on with it but she just stood there awkwardly looking around.
"Look, mom, I'm really tired," I said as she sighed, "I know, but I want to make things right between us,"
she said before taking a seat beside me, "This morning, I was wrong for hitting you and I regret it so
much, but I wish you'd be nicer to Roger as it will make me happy," she said as I stared back at her in
disbelief before shifting away from her and before I could speak, she continued.
"And I know, I was being selfish, I am being selfish and I know I should've come and discussed this
with you and hear your concerns and opinion before I made this big decision, but I didn't and I regret it
so much because you're suffering and I promised your father that I would take care of you in the best
way I could," She said as we both began to tear up.
"Why didn't you, mom?" I asked as she sighed deeply, "Because it was the last thing on my mind, after
your father died it broke something in me and I hated the pain it brought with it," she said as I stared at
her in awe. I never really knew how much my mom suffered when my dad died and now that I know, it
stabbed me right in the heart.
"Ashely, I love your father and I could never replace the type of love he gave to me but I couldn't bear
the pain anymore so I went out and found myself a distraction, and then the unexpected happened, I
fell in love,' she said as we smiled weakly at each other, "But no other man could replace your father
and no other man could ever give me what your father gave to me and you know what that is,
sweetheart?" She asked as I shook my head.
"You, my love," she replied and that did it. I threw myself into her arms as I sobbed into her chest while
she stroked my hair, "I'm sorry, mommy," I cried as she softly shushed me, "I'm sorry too, sweetheart,
she said as I moved back with a smile on my face while wiping my tears.
"Let's make a pact, mom, no more secrets, no more enduring feelings alone," I said as she smiled
before nodding, "Shall we seal it?" I asked as her eyes widened, "You remembered?" She asked as I
nodded, "Of course I remembered, it was our thing," I said as she smiled before we did our mom and
daughter handshake.
We created this handshake when I was 9-years-old and we still got it. Laughter filled my room and
honestly, I missed my mom, she's my best friend. I ended up telling her about Jay.
"Uh, uh, Ash, he sounds like trouble, but I'm glad he's making you happy, and don't ever go down to
that racing ground, what on earth was Anna thinking?" She asked while tucking a strand of hair behind
my ear, "Don't worry, mom, I'm never going down there again," I said before my door opened revealing
Roger.
"Jake's been arrested,"

IT'S THE POLICE, EVERYONE RAN!"
F**k! That's not good.
I grabbed that idiot by his t-shirt and began to drag him with me, "Come on, dumbass, I'm not letting
you get caught by these pigs no matter how much I hate you, because that's f**Ked up," I said as he
nodded before we began to ran.
"HEY! STOP RIGHT THERE!" A police officer yelled as he and a few other police officers tried
surrounding us.
Shit! Shit!
I began to panic as the cops began to surround us, "Shit, man, what are we going to do?" Jay asked as
I rolled my eyes.
Coward ass!
I looked around thinking of a way to escape but in the end, I eventually gave up, slowly putting my
hands behind my head. Jay looked at me in disbelief as his eyes widened, "What the hell are you
doing?" He whispered-yelled as I sighed, "There's no use in running now, they already caught us," I
said as the officers walked towards us as they shined that bright ass light in our faces.
"Ugh!" I groaned as the officer harshly pinned me to the floor before handcuffing my wrists. I looked to
my side to see Jay getting the same treatment, "You boys just can't stay out of trouble?" the officer
asked before taking us downtown.

Soon, we reached the police station as we were annoyingly shoved in. I hate the police station and this
wasn't the first time I've been in one.
"What do we got here, officer?" Asked another officer, who had a smirk on her face.
She thinks this shit is funny, huh?
"Street racers," the officer replied as the female officer smirked before getting closer to my face, "Oh,
we got a special place for young men like you," she said breathing in my face as I scrunch in my nose,
"Bro, you need a f**king breath mint," I said before being dragged to a jail cell.
"Man, my papas is going to kill me," Jay complained, annoying the hell out of me, "Yo, would you shut
the hell up," I said before trying to get an officer's attention.
"Hey, officer, can I get a phone call?" I asked as the officer looked at me unamused, "And why would I
do that?" He asked, "Because it's my right, that's why," I replied as he came to unlock my cell, "One
call," he said as I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, I get it," I said before Jay yelled out, "I WANT A CALL TOO!"
Dumbass!

Soon we had arrived at the police station, "Girls, please, stay in the car," Roger said before exiting the All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
car.
Tck! He's so dumb to get himself arrested.
Minutes after Roger entered the station, another man entered at well looking pissed.
Damn! I wonder who's his child?
It was getting really boring in the car as we waited for Roger and Jake to return. But after a few
minutes, Jake and Roger exited the station followed by Jay and I'm guessing that was his father, who
was dragging him by the back of the neck before my attention was caught by Jake entering the car.
He gave me a bored look before asking, "What are you doing here?" he asked as I shrugged, "Why
were you in prison?" I asked instead as he scoffed before leaning back, "None of your business," he
said in a dry tone as I chuckled, "Then, my reason for being here is none of your business," I said as he
groaned, "God, you're so irritating," he said as I giggled, "Right back at you, brother."

We entered the house and almost immediately, Roger began to lecture Jake, who was already making
his way upstairs.
"Jake, I'm not done with you," he said as Jake stopped before groaning, "Why are you acting out like
Jake, is it because of my relationship with Katie?" He asked as Jake turned to face him, "Man, I'm not
having this conversation," Jaked said but Roger kept on pushing it. My mom tried her best to calm
Roger down while I stood near the front door taking in everything.
"No, we're having this conversation," Roger said as Jake sighed, "Look, things between your mother
and I wasn't working, I fell out of love and didn't see the point in staying so I left," he said as I saw
something sparked in Jake's eyes.
"Then, what about me?" Jake asked leaving Roger speechless, "What about me, dad, what about my
feelings and my life?" Jake asked and the way he called Roger 'dad' came out bitter and emotionless.
"You're out here trying to be someone else's father when you're already a f**king father, my father," he
continued getting slightly emotional but was too stubborn to show his weak side. I looked at my mom
and guilt was written on her face as she stared at Jake.
"I get that you and mom were falling apart, but that shit got nothing to do with me, I needed you and
you left me, so don't ask why I'm acting out because if you had raised me like a father supposed to
raise his son, then I wouldn't be acting this way, "he said before leaving.
The atmosphere was awkward and thick, no one moved from their places after Jake left. The way how
he expressed his true feelings made me feel a type of way and I don't quite understand why.
Both of us lost something precious to us.
I lost my father by chance.
And he lost his father by choice.
