Chapter 899
Garland paused, turning back to face Juan. He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and asked, "You know who I am?"
"What do you think?" Juan replied coolly.
"Then go ahead and expose me, please. I'm tired of being an impersonator. You have no idea how boring it is to be Fermin," Garland said, a hint of weariness in his voice. "Mr. Eaton," Carter interjected.
Garland straightened his clothes and said more seriously, "Mr. Nichols, come with me."
In the study, Bert had overheard their entire conversation. He took off one of his shoes and threw it at Garland. "You useless brat. What good are you?"
Garland swiftly dodged the shoe, but it flew past him and headed straight for Juan. With a quick reflex, Juan caught the shoe in mid-air.
"Mr. Eaton Sr., let's talk business," Juan said, placing the shoe back on the desk.
Bert appreciated his polite demeanor. "Wilbur's grandson is much better than Caleb's grandson. Alright, what business do you want to discuss?"
"My grandmother has come overseas. I want you to promise not to agree to any of her requests and send her back to Seamar City."
"And?"
"And Mr. Garland Eaton is unfit for any serious responsibility. I'm willing to be his mentor."
Garland immediately protested, "No way. I don't want to."
"Shut up!" Bert snapped, glaring at him.
Juan continued, "If the other
branches of the Eaton family and outsiders find out that Fermin died in a car accident long ago, they wil likely band together to seize power. Mr. Garland Eaton is the only direct heir left. If he remains as he is, he will be devoured by those vultures."
"There are plenty of people who can be his mentor. Why do you think you're qualified?" Bert challenged.
"Because I am Juan, Wilbur's grandson," Juan replied simply.
Bert was aware of the power and reputation of Wilbur Nichols and had heard of Juan's prowess in Seamar City. "Is that all?"
"In three months, I will need your influence and a new identity."
"What kind of identity?"
"Any identity will do."
"How about a security guard in my household?"
"That will work."
"You hold such an important secret about my family, and you're offering to teach Garland for free. All you want in return is a minor position?"
As Juan remained silent, Bert
studied his expression. "You're the CEO of the Nichols Group, and your mind is far more complex than Wilbur's. Why don't you just tell me what you really want?"
"I just want to protect someone," Juan replied.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Garland cracked open a sunflower seed and chimed in, "You're a business tycoon. You can protect not just one person, but a hundred. I don't buy it. Dad, don't believe him. I don't want any mentors."
Bert scrutinized Juan from head to toe. "You're not just here to protect someone. You came overseas for a reason, seeking an identity within the Eaton family. What are you investigating?"
