Chapter 164
Four or Dead
By the time I make it to the Northeast train station, I am covered in sweat and so thirsty I am about to pass out
One of the guards tries to stop me from entering, but I whisper to him one word, and he lets me pass. I go directly to the safety box, type in the code, and open it. The money and the phone are there, and I grab them. And my smartwatch. Dios, I really missed my smartwatch
I also take one of the emergency backpacks that contains not only clean clothes and sports shoes but water and food as well, and empty the two bottles in less than a minute. I eye one of the graham crackers packs, but I doubt I can stomach anything after...Stefan
I go to the bathroom and change my clothes, not before cleaning the sweat and the dust from my body. When I feel more or less human again, I call Wasp
"Bumblebee?" she asks as she answers
"Hi," I croak
"How are you?"
"Miserable," I sob. "My mates hate me and don't want anything to do with me. And...you have to explain all this hellstar business to me because, apparently, you have been hiding things from me."
Wasp is quiet for a moment before letting out a long sigh. "It wasn't intentional, as I am learning new things each day. I will tell you what I know when you make it to the Sanctuary. But the plan is the same get out of the city." Of course, the plan is the same. "Once you have Fire Fly out, we will meet at the extraction point."
I am starting to regret accepting this mission. "Beetle would have been a better option than me for saving Fire Fly."
"But she doesn't know the facility as you do," Wasp reminds me
I know. We have gone over the plan a thousand times. I was the best option for this mission, and to make sure no one was suspecting anything, I had to act on my own. My mistake was to ask Alekos for his help. I should have walked all the way to the facility instead of stopping by his office. But this is the first time we are doing this, and we are still learning
I fight the tears that threaten to fall down my cheeks. It will take a long time to get over Alekos, Reyes, and Stefan. If ever. "This is the last time I do something for you."
"Bumblebee, I am sorry for putting you in this mess. If I had known...if I have suspected about you and Alekos and his blood-bothers, I would not have asked this of you...and if not for running out of time...I would have asked Beetle to do this."
"T know. See you in three days," I say as I set the timer on my smartwatch. "It should be more than enough time to get Fire Fly out
and safely make it to the extraction point." "Be careful," Wasp says before ending the phone callNôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
I remove the sim card before smashing the phone with the heel of my shoe and throwing it in the bin together with Reyes' shirt. I grab the backpack, and before leaving the bathroom, I throw the sim card in the toilet and flush the water
The timetable is close to the cafeteria, and I go check out the train schedule. I am debating the safest and quickest way to get out of the city-train, bus, or a GoLyft-when someone grabs me by my right arm
A sharp pain to my side follows, and then something is shoved between my ribs. Did I get injected with something? A man says into my ear, "If you don't want me to kill you right now, come with me. If you make any sound or try to catch someone's attention, I won't hesitate to kill you," as his hand squeezes my arm so hard, bruises will form
Bile rises to my throat, but I swallow hard and nod my head. All the planning, time, and resources invested in saving Fire Fly wasted because I wasn't sneaky enough not to get caught by Carlos when I was leaving his office, a pen drive belonging to him in my bra. He had invited me and my father to dine with him, and we were sitting at the table when I excused myself to go the bathroom. It was not there that I wanted to go, but to his office, wanting to find a way to avoid a wedding with him
He was not very happy with me when he saw me, but I blamed it on 'that time of the month,'
Carlos did not believe me and kept an even closer eye on me while
hinting that all his electronics were traceable once connected, making me paranoid that I could be discovered if I attempted to access what was contained on the pen drive. So I hid it the day I ran away from home. I doubt anyone will find it unless I say where it is. Who will ever think of looking in the fish tank in the lobby of Alekos's company? All I needed was a waterproof case, and buying one in the mall was easy
The man shoves the barrel of his gun harder, making me wince in pain
"Start walking. Behind the train station is a parking lot; we are going there."
I start feeling sleepy, and my gaze goes around the train station, looking for that one security guard who can help me while I try to take off my smartwatch and put it in the front pocket of my jeans
"What did I tell you?" he growls into my ear. "And hands to your sides!"
Having managed to hide my smartwatch, I do as he orders and start
walking
"Did Carlos send you?" I ask, hoping to distract him, but he keeps quiet
My mind is racing, trying to find a way to weasel myself out of this situation, but I never took self-defense classes. My experience with Alekos, Reyes, and Stefan has taught me that I am not strong enough to fight against a guy who is armed and dangerous. Plus, I was injected with something that's making me sleepier with each passing second
I start walking, hoping that someone will notice how uncomfortable I
am and help, but all my hopes are crushed when we reach the parking lot. The man makes me stop behind a black car without license plates and opens the trunk
"Get in!" he orders me
I finally turn around to look at him. He is as tall as Alekos, with black hair and cold, piercing blue eyes. The number 514 is tattooed on his left cheek. Numerous scars cover his bare hands
I can barely stand, my eyes feeling very heavy. "Please, I will die in there. Just let me stay in the back seat."
He narrows his eyes. "I was told to kidnap you, but nothing about whether you must be alive or dead when I deliver you to Azael. So you either get in the trunk alive, or I can put a bullet through your head."
As you reach the final pages, remember that 000005s.org is your destination for the complete story. Share the joy of reading with others and spread the word. The next chapter is just a visit away! Who is Azael?
Whatever he injected me with makes me so very drowsy, and between the heat, my upset stomach, and the idea of being locked in a dark, small place, my knees turn to jelly, and I fall to the ground I want to ask him not to put me in there, but only a weak whimper escapes my lips
The man swears something under his breath before removing my
backpack, picking me up, and throwing me into the trunk. And then he closes it, leaving me alone in the dark. Immediately, I start to panic. I let out a weak scream that gets swallowed by the car's engine
Once, during high school, when I was locked in a closet, and Alekos found me, he helped me calm down by having me focus on my breathing. The trunk is so hot, sweat and fingers running down my skin
No, no fingers, as I am alone in here. I start seeing all kinds of things and I scream again, this time a little louder, as the car drives away. I kick and punch, but when I realize that the adrenaline rushing through my system is slowing down the effects of the drug, I decide to make a last desperate attempt
All or nothing
Imagining that the guys are with me and inhaling deeply while biting the interior of my cheeks so I won't fall asleep, I fish out the smartwatch from my pocket and try to connect it to the train station wifi. Once I have two lines of signal, I enter my email and select a draft that I wrote the day I used Stefan's laptop, adding a few more details before sending it to Alekos. My eyes close, and I force myself to open them to see if the email went through. That's when I saw my mistake; I accidentally sent the email to Stefan. I had saved his email just in case
Game over, I think as I fall asleep
