Chapter 20
Chapter 20
“Sheriff Webb? I thought it wasn't you who knocked on my windshield," Scott said as he helped Lisa
out of the car. Then, the girl stood beside Scott.
“Mr. Scott Hanson. Why are you here?” asked Sheriff Webb, surprised.
"I'm on a date with Lisa. Isn't tonight a Sunday night, a time for young people to date and have fun? Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Then, why are you here?” Scott answered as he asked Lisa to put on her sweater.
"Lisa Conway, are you Dorothy's granddaughter?" asked Sheriff Webb, trying to get a better look at
Lisa's face.
"Good evening, Sheriff. I'm Lisa Conway, Dorothy's granddaughter," the girl replied.
"Oh so now you two are dating," Sheriff Webb said with a smile.
“Sheriff, you haven't answered my question. What are you doing on this hill? Isn't this hill for young
people on a date?" asked Scott a second time.
“Ah sorry, at the crossroads earlier, I saw a car running from the center of the city towards the forest at
high speed. What made me a little suspicious was why was he heading towards the forest on a cold
night like this? Then, I took the initiative to follow him, unexpectedly the car turned this way and I lost
track of him. Coincidentally, the car that the person is driving is similar to yours. And when I saw your
car parked on the edge of the hill, I wanted to know if you were that person or not? Turns out, I've lost
track of him," replied Sheriff Webb, annoyed.
“Don't most of the townspeople have a car that looks like mine? Maybe what you see is the act of
young people who are looking to explore the forest. Just let them go," Scott said.
"No, that's not the case. What I saw in the car was a mature man. I am sure of it. And the forest has
been closed since the case of several people being killed for no apparent reason. We're still
investigating the cause of their death, was it due to a beast attack or an attack by some unknown
creatures? I need more evidence. Alright, since I found out that the guy wasn't here, I'll be leaving right
away. Sorry to bother you," Sheriff Webb said goodbye.
“Be careful on the road, Sheriff. Good night. Bye," Scott said, waving his hand at Sheriff Webb.
“You guys also be careful. Hurry home before midnight," answered Sheriff Webb as he left the two of
them behind.
Then, Scott turned and looked at Lisa who was apparently standing behind him. The man was
surprised, then he asked, "Lisa, are you okay?"
Lisa looked into Scott's face and replied, “I'm fine. It's just, I just realized that it's very quiet here and we
are alone. We'd better get out of here."
"Are you scared?" Scott asked with a smile.
"Yes. We're far from the crowds and it seems like this place is secluded.”
“Indeed this place is far from the crowds and secluded. Because this place is usually used by couples
for dating. Soon this place will be quite crowded. But, if you insist, fine. Let's get out of here," said
Scott.
Then they both got into the car. Lisa sat next to Scott looking out the window. It was dark and so quiet
around them. There is no one other than them. Not long after, Scott's car drove away from the edge of
the hill toward the center of town.
Along the way, Lisa was silent and looked out the window. Scott who realized this, took the girl's hand
and asked, "Are you okay?"
Lisa turned her head and replied, "I'm fine."
"Then why are you silent?" asked Scott.
"It does not matter."
Moments later, they began to enter the road leading to Dorothy's house. The night was getting late,
only a few couples were seen in the car on a date. Then the car stopped right in front of Dorothy's
house. Lisa and Scott hurriedly got out of the car and walked out onto the front porch.
Lisa took the house keys out of her bag, while Scott stood beside her. A few minutes later, the door of
the house opened. It was very quiet in the house, Dorothy and Sean had gone into their bed bedrooms.
Before Scott left Dorothy's house, he said, “Lisa, I'm home now. Go inside and lock the door tightly."
"Okay. Take care and be careful. When will you come here again?” Lisa asked as if don't want to let
Scott go.
"Don't you want me to get out of here?" asked Scott.
"Um." Lisa didn't answer, only a smile appeared on her lips that seemed to imply that she didn't want to
be away from Scott.
“I will come back tomorrow after finishing my work. Do you want me to bring you something?” asked
Scott.
"No. Just come here. Anyway, next Saturday, we will have a barbecue party. My father will be coming
here, so will you also join us next week?” Lisa asked hopefully.
"Okay. I will come. Thanks for inviting me, Lisa. Now come in and go to sleep. Dream of me hahaha."
“Hahaha, it looks like I will indeed dream of you. All right, you can go. I'm going to close the door now."
"Okay, bye. I'll send you my singing voice, you can listen to it while you sleep."
"Okay. Be careful. Bye."
"Bye, Lisa." Scott waved his hand at Lisa as he walked to his car.
Then, after making sure Scott's car had left her, Lisa closed the door and hurried up the second floor to
her bedroom.
The girl stepped slowly so as not to wake her grandmother and brother. Arriving in her bedroom, she
immediately took off her shoes and changed clothes, then lay down. Lisa smiled happily when she laid
down, she had fallen in love with Scott. Now, her mind and heart were filled with Scott's image.
Meanwhile, at Scott's residence. Katie looked thoughtful in her bedroom. That night, she will carry out
her plan to reveal the identity of the man who has a snake tattoo on his chest. Katie knew all the risks
she was going to face. But, if she didn't act, then the case that was being investigated by Scott would
end up deadlocked.
Katie made up her mind, then she rushed out of her bedroom and accidentally passed by with Tom.
The man sensed that there was something odd about Katie's behavior, but he wasn't sure what it was.
"Katie, where are you going?" asked Tom.
“Somewhere, to meet my friend. I'll go now," Katie said hastily.
However, Tom felt that Katie was lying. There was something she was hiding.
