Chapter 12: He's Just Your Boss
Chapter 12: He's Just Your Boss
Later, Luz found an excuse to distract her son and managed to slip out quietly. She called Mia and
asked her to come over at lunch to look after him as she drove to the company.
...
This was the first meeting that Luz had attended on the second day of work. She was mainly
responsible for hosting and recording the meeting.
At 9:30 in the morning, Henry entered the meeting room in a black suit with the senior executives.
His indifferent expression and cold aura startled Luz, who was standing the closest to him. She almost
dropped the documents she was holding.
She looked away awkwardly and forced herself to calm down.
"Luz, just treat him as your boss," she told herself quietly. "Don't bring in any other emotions!"
Before long, Luz felt her head spin because of the fever. Cold sweat coated the back of her shirt as her
face turned pale.
Suddenly, Henry's voice came into her ears. "Ms. Boone, what do you think?"
Luz's hands on the keyboard suddenly flinched.
She was going to read off the meeting minutes and find out what Henry was asking her about, but she
realised that the document in front of her was just a bunch of jumbled words. Evidently, she did not take
down the minutes properly.
"Well, well. Secretary Boone, for getting distracted in a meeting."
Henry's lips curled into a cruel smile when Luz did not answer his question. His face was so indifferent
it was almost cruel. He rapped on the table and said, "Get out and ask Linda to come in."
Obviously, he was very dissatisfied with her.
Luz clenched her fists, burying her nails into her palms, and admitted fault to Henry.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Maynard. Please repeat what you just said, and I'll reflect on this after the meeting."
Henry's eyes turned cold and said curtly, "I don't need any excuses. Get out!" Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
"... Okay." She bit her lips and got up to leave the meeting room.
Less than half an hour after the meeting, everyone in the company knew that the new secretary was
absent-minded during the meeting and had been told off by the CEO.
Many people were secretly taking pleasure in her misfortune and saying that she deserved it.
When Linda brought her the completed meeting minutes, she also gave her a box of medicine.
"Secretary Boone, you must not be well. Take some of this and go home. There's not much work left
anyway, I can help you with that."
"Thank you, Linda, but you didn't have to." Luz smiled and refused Linda's kindness.
If she left now saying she was sick, everyone else would think that she was abusing her power. The
gossip mill would work hard to discredit her.
"Okay then, take care of yourself."
Henry sent her two contracts by email and instructed her to settle them by next Wednesday.
Luz worked hard on them for the entire afternoon. Thankfully, she did not feel as dizzy after taking
some medicine.
When they were about to get off work, the receptionist called in from the front desk. "Ms. Boone, a little
boy is waiting for you in the lobby."
A little boy?
Did her son come here?
Just as she had expected, Logan was waiting in the lobby for her when she arrived on the ground floor.
He ran towards her with a bright smile on his face.
"Mommy, I missed you so much!"
"I missed you too, Logan." All her exhaustion evaporated when she saw him. Her mood improved
drastically.
"Did Mia bring you here? Where is she?"
"Mia left because she has something to do. She asked me to wait for you here."
"Mommy, I want ice cream!"
Logan quickly changed the subject before Luz could ask too many questions. He took her hand and
pulled her towards the elevators. "Let's go, we can drive there."
Luz smiled resignedly at her lively son.
