Chapter 508 Thank God, I've Finally Reached You
Seeing the red dots flashing relentlessly from the helicopter in the sky, I clutched Sergio's hand tightly. "W-
What do we do?"
We were in the middle of the ocean now-if they attacked, there would be nowhere to hide!
"Don't be afraid. After all, I carry the Ligendzas bloodline. If she wants to use you to threaten the Boltons, she wouldn't go so far as to completely destroy us," Sergio reassured me.
His words were comforting, but my heart still raced with panic and unease. Out here on this vast, boundless sea, Sergio was the only person I could rely on.
The helicopter spotted us and began pursuing our boat.
At that moment, how I wished the one coming after us was Carter-if it were him, at least my child and I might be saved.
But the reality was far crueler than I'd hoped. A heavy machine gun was mounted on the helicopter, and they opened fire in the direction our speedboat was racing toward.
"Dr. Zimmer, what do we do?" I cried out in terror, hugging my round, protruding belly tightly.
"Coco, don't be afraid. I'm here." Sergio wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pressing my head against his chest.
Outside, a violent storm raged, with countless raindrops and waves crashing against us. I clung to Sergio's clothes, uncertain if I could survive this ordeal.
Will I ever make it back alive to see Carter again?
I'm sorry... I don't even know what he looks like now. The only memory I have is of meeting him when I was eight years old.
I didn't dare imagine how devastated he would be on the day he found my body and our children.
Sergio wasn't wrong-they weren't directly shooting at the boat. Their goal was to force us to stop the speedboat and bring us to a halt.
But in this situation, how could we possibly stop?
If we were captured, both Sergio and I would face a miserable fate.
That sick and twisted family wouldn't let Sergio go, much less spare me.
The speedboat surged forward desperately while the helicopter followed close behind in the stormy sky. Whether it was the sea or the sky, the situation wasn't looking good.
The wind was fierce, the rain relentless, and the waves towering, but none of us could afford to stop. Out here in the pitch-black sea, the speedboat and helicopter were locked in a deadly race.
All I could do was pray to the heavens for a way out for me and my child. Just one more month, and I'd finally get to meet them. I couldn't let anything happen now.
I've already suffered so much-rejected by my family, betrayed by the one I loved, torn apart, and barely pieced back together to have this second chance at life. I hadn't even met my children yet.
Heavens, you've tormented me for so long. Just this once-this one time-please give me a chance to live.
I owe nothing to anyone, so why must my life be filled with such misfortune?
If I truly wasn't meant to live, at least wait until I've given birth to my children before taking my life. They're innocent!
Two streams of tears slid silently down my cheeks.
Just then, a flash of violet light streaked across the sky, followed by a deafening thunderclap.
Boom!
I quickly looked up. The helicopter had flown into a thundercloud, and amid the lightning and thunder, it seemed to have been struck.
Smoke trailed from the helicopter as it plummeted from the sky, crashing straight into the ocean.
I was stunned, completely speechless. The wind brushed against the tear tracks on my face, snapping me out of my daze.
The whole scene felt surreal, almost theatrical.
Had God really heard my prayers?
Sergio gently stroked my head, patting my back. "Coco, it's over now."
No, it wasn't over-not yet. That madwoman wouldn't let me off so easily.
I pulled myself out of his embrace and wiped the tears from my face. At the very least, we had survived this ordeal.
The helicopter's wreckage served as a warning, so the speedboat slowed down, and the sounds of the wind and rain began to diminish.
We reached an island to rest and recover. With such a fierce storm, it would have been far too dangerous to continue sailing.
It turned out that Sergio had long been prepared. Once we escaped, this island was his designated destination-he even had a safehouse here.
He looked at me, my face and hair soaked from the storm, with deep concern in his eyes. "You must've been terrified tonight. Get some rest."
"Do you think they'll come looking for us?"
"Don't worry. There are dozens of islands and reefs around here. Even if they suspect we've come ashore, without a tracker, they won't know which one. But you'll have to endure a few days in these conditions. Once the danger passes, we'll leave."
The living conditions on the island were indeed poor. Most of the inhabitants were locals who made their living by fishing, and even the houses were mostly wooden structures.
We stayed in a basement, where the air was damp and carried a faint, musty smell.
Chapter 508 Thank God, I've Finally Reached You
I changed into dry, comfortable clothes and dried my hair.
After such a chaotic and harrowing night, I finally experienced a moment of calm. It wasn't until just before dawn that I drifted into a deep sleep.
That night, I was plagued by nightmares and woke up drenched in cold sweat.
Gazing around the unadorned basement, the recollections of the events of the previous night gradually flooded back.
When I didn't see Sergio nearby, I called out his name and made my way upstairs.
"Dr. Zimmer..."
I didn't relax until I saw him appear. "Where did you go?"
After seeing the tension in my eyes, his expression softened. "I went to find some food for you and took a look around the island. Don't worry, I won't leave you behind."
I clung tightly to his sleeve. "Good. If you left, what would I do?"
He instinctively pulled me into an embrace. "Coco, could it be that I've started to hold a little place in your heart?"
I hid the complex emotions in my eyes and went along with his words. "If you hadn't been by my side last night, I wouldn't have known what to do. I'm lucky you were here."
Sergio, you're a good person, but I'm sorry-I won't ever fall for you.
In fact, this whole situation might be a blessing in disguise for me. Being stranded on this isolated, signal- less island has given me a chance. If I can seize the opportunity, I might finally be able to call for help and
escape.
Before leaving, I deliberately took the piece of paper with Carter's phone number on it.
I memorized it over and over in my mind, afraid I might forget it.
I had to make use of Sergio's protection while also lulling him into a sense of ease, making him think I hadnoveldrama
no interest in Carter and was slowly falling for him instead.
He seemed very pleased with my attitude. "You must be hungry. I made you something to eat. It's not as good as what you're used to, but try to make do."
I smiled at him. "The fact that we're still alive and eating at all is already more than enough for me."
I meant those words. After eating something simple, I asked him, "How long are we staying here?"
"At least a week. Even if they search the islands, it'll take them a week to comb through them all. I'll stock
up on supplies soon-she'll probably assume we've already left. The safest place is often the most dangerous-looking one."
I nodded obediently. "Alright, I'll do whatever you say."
"Coco, it's been hard on you."
.
"Not at all. I should be thanking you for saving me."
A gentle light appeared in his eyes. "I'm going out to gather some supplies. There will be two bodyguards
outside to protect you. If you need anything, just tell them."
"Okay. I won't go anywhere. I'll wait for you right here."
He was clearly satisfied with my compliance before he finally left.
I had to endure these seven days, earn his trust, avoid the madwoman's pursuit, and slowly search for an opportunity.
I couldn't rush this.
I went back to the basement and spread out the blankets he had brought, tidying up the clothes we'd brought along in the chaos of last night.
Chain
As I took the clothes out piece by piece, I noticed the rabbit keychain hanging on the bag-its eyes were glowing!
The eyes seemed to be made of some gemstone, beautiful and dazzling.
But now, for no apparent reason, they were emitting light. What was going on?
This little thing was clearly suspicious. I began searching around it, looking for some switch or hidden mechanism.
The moment I twisted one of its ears, an unfamiliar yet familiar male voice came through, "Chloe, thank God, I've finally reached you..
What do you think?
