Chapter 69
69 On whose order?®
ww
Evelyn was eating her lunch while listening to Mister Smith’s chatter, he was telling her about how she was not being proficient in her work. But at this point, Evelyn did not even care what Mister Smith wanted
and did not want her to do.
She had already bent her morals for him once by letting the application of Mister Nelson and Mrs Nelson proceed even though neither of them came to submit the application.
“Are you listening to me?” Mister Smith que. ioned angrily, spit flew from his mouth as he looke at Evelyn with an annoyed expression. It was as if she
were the unreasonable one here.
Evelyn closed her eyes as she chewed on her creamy pasta. She then placed the fork in her hand and answered, “I did hear what you said, Mister Smith. B my answer is still the same, Mister Bardot and you want me to overrule the application of domestic violence and raising an illegitimate son in the countryside, that were submitted by his wife as evidence for the divorce and alimony that he is

refusing to pay to her.”
“Even though you want me to refute the evidence provided, the court will not and neither will the judge, at most Mister Bardot will only be delaying the evidence for the next six months. But when the case comes to light, I will be the one who will be
questioned. I cannot do that”
There was no way, Evelyn was going to turn a blind eye to something so serious. Mister Bardot had beaten his wife and his legitimate son until both of them received serious fractures. The case was bound to be resolved with Mister Bardot losing it as his wife was rot from a small background either, what Mister Smith ranted her to do was equivalent to career suicide!
She would be questioned for ethics and morals once she listened to Mister Smith, and it wasn’t as she were the one who promised to overrule the case, i
was him!
Mister Smith took the bribe from Mister Bardot not her, so why should she take this risk?
“You! How dare you refuse the order of your senior?” Mister Smith questioned. If not for the fact that he did

not want to get entangled and publicly executed, he would have done this job with his own hands. But he was worried that once the case was exposed, as it was bound to be, he would be the one who would be interrogated and prosecuted later on.
He could only make someone else do it for him.
Which meant that he wanted to enjoy the s veetness of the fruit while someone else took the bitter seeds!
“You and I know very well whether this is a legal order or a personal one,” Evelyn sneered as she picked up the lunchbox on her desk again and started to eat. “I am not a fool, Mister Smith. I have a family to ta e care of, if I lose my job then my mother will die of sickness and my brother will be kicked out of his university. I am sorry, but this is not a job that I can take, if you want you can change this case to another person.”
However, everyone else in the department was experienced and had connections. If Mister Smi asked them to do this job, they would file a compla against him. He couldn’t risk it, the only person who he could pressure was Evelyn as she was new in the department and did not have any connections to the

higher-ups.
“What rubbish are you spouting? Do you come here to quibble or to do work? I said do it then do it, or do you want me to–” fire you?
He couldn’t say the rest of the sentence as the double wooden doors were pushed violently. With a bang, they clashed against the wall and almost sl attered with the impact that was made on them.
Mister Smith jumped an inch from the ground, and so did Evelyn. The lunchbox and the fork flew out from her hands and while the fork dropped on the ground right next to her desk, the lunchbox ended flying towards Mister Smith who was smacked rig in the face. With a light clatter, when compared to the churning of the doors, it fell on the floor.

Noticing what happened in just a few seconds, Evelyn gasped as she looked at Mister Smith. The cream white sauce of her pasta was now sliding down the face of her boss. His expression was frozen, but it wasn’t because of the smack that he just received, it
was because of the man who strode inside the room. @
It was none other than Noah Nelson!

The man who ruled the Lonest City with Nicolai De Luca. If Nicolai announced extravagantly that he was going to kill you, Noah Nelson, on the other hand, would silently move in the dark. He won’t kill, but instead, he would make the person who offended him lose everything until they were broken, crippled, and lost.
In a life like that, it was better to die in the hands of
Nicolai.
Mister Smith also knew this and couldn’t shiver when
he saw the man walk towards him with a pace that showed he meant business in every possible way.
A chill crawled up in his heart. He was so scared that his legs turned to jelly, but he still managed to pull his lips in a brilliant smile.
Maybe he was thinking too much. Mister Nelson could be here to get his divorce decree after all the d
proceedings have ended.
There was also a possibility of him giving him an excellent reward for doing the task so skillfully.
“G…Good afternoon, Mister Nelson,” without wiping the sauce that now stuck to his head and face, Mister

Smith greeted Noah with a flattering smile on his face, his back was bent and if not for the fact that he
couldn’t go any lower he would have bent even more. “How can I help you…are you here to get your divorce
decree?”
“Who did it?” Noah asked with barely concealed rage.
“Sorry?”
“Who authorized this divorce proceeding? And on whose ORDER!?”
