Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Jessie walked out of the kitchen. She seemed delighted to see Gisele there. “Madam Gisele, you’re back,” she said.
Gisele didn’t respond. She was still trapped in the grief of losing her baby. She continued to stare at the spot at the bottom of the stairs as if the tiles could explain themselves to her for causing her miscarriage.
Dorian found Gisele’s behavior strange, but he didn’t care.
“The last thing I need you to do is take a picture with me. It’s for Grandfather. You can leave after that,” he said.
Gisele narrowed her eyes, which were full of hatred, at him as she swallowed her fear.
“I refuse.”
“You don’t call the shots here!” Dorian roared as he grabbed her by the shoulder and walked her to the spot that she had been staring at.
Gisele stood at the spot at the bottom of the stairs as she tried hard to push away the fear and anxiety that threatened to overwhelm her.
Her mind was plagued by the scene that day, when she had laid in a pool of her blood as she had wallowed in sorrow with eyes full of despair.
It was the very day she had lost the final ounce of love she had for him.
Her legs turned to jelly, and she sank to the ground. Her face looked even paler under the light.
She looked so pitiful and forlorn that both Dorian and Jessie looked at her with suspicion in their eyes.
It was especially so for Jessie. On the day Gisele had prepared lentil soup, Dorian had called. Jessie and asked her to come to Jefferson Manor to check if burglars had broken into the
manor.
There had been nothing strange when she had arrived. Everything had seemed fine. Besides the faint smell of blood in the air, the only strange thing was that the CCTV had been broken.
Later on, she had found a bag containing what was seemingly chicken blood in the kitchen. Gisele had prepared lentil soup that day, so Jessie hadn’t put more thought into it after that.
Gisele’s baby had come to her so quietly, and it left the world silently too.
It was as if it had all been just a dream. No one except her knew that she had once been pregnant with Dorian’s child.
“Jessie, go
and bring us the baby clothes,” said Dorian as he pulled Gisele’s trembling arm.
A sliver of annoyance flashed across his face. Gisele should have at least told him beforehand why she wanted to put on such an act.
Jessie froze for a moment before replying, “Okay. I’ll go and get them for you.”
The baby clothes, which were spin–dried, were placed in a basket.
Dorian then handed his phone to Jessie and ordered, “Record me and Gisele when we hang out the clothes to dry later.”
“Huh? Okay.” Jessie was confused, but she gingerly did as she was told.
Dorian was picking up one of the onesies from the basket when he noticed Gisele still rooted at the same spot.
Her red–rimmed eyes were dull, and she looked as if something had sucked the life out of
her.
He wasted no time stuffing the onesie into her hands. He demanded, “Gisele, you’d better hurry and do what you need to do!”
Gisele’s eyes zeroed in on the soft piece of fabric in her hands. She stared at it unblinkingly. These were the clothes she had specially picked for her baby after she had started going for the IVF procedures.
After she had taken the injections, she had happily headed to the shops selling baby stuff. At first, she had simply gone window shopping.
Later on,
after two embryos had been successfully implanted in her body, she had finally gotten the courage to buy a few clothes for the baby.
Gisele’s hands clenched the clothes tightly. Resistance was written all over her face.
“Hurry up,” said Dorian as he stood behind her and grabbed one end of the onesie with her.
The warmth from his chest that seeped through his clothes snapped Gisele out of her daze. She tossed the onesie aside and pushed him away, her hands trembling.
She was on the verge of a breakdown, but she pretended to be just fine.
“Didn’t you hear what I said? I said I refuse!” she shouted at him.
“So what?” Dorian took a step backward as he stared at her indifferently, as if he were
looking at a stranger.
“So what? What are you afraid of? You just don’t have the guts to go against Grandpa. Declan, right?” she sneered.
Disdain flashed in Gisele’s eyes as she said, “There are scandals about you and Sierra everywhere. Why didn’t you seem scared then?
“What’s the purpose of taking photos with me as if we’re looking forward to having a baby together? It’s all just a ruse anyway!
“Do you have it in you to make your lover sad if she sees this? Aren’t you afraid that I’ll share these pictures with the world so that everyone knows she’s your mistress?”
Gisele calmly tossed questions at him. She was more composed now. Although she had been a bit frightened because of what had happened that day, she was level–headed enough to face it now.
Her barrage of questions rendered Dorian speechless. His face darkened all of a sudden.
His eyes bore into her pale face and small frame. She looked especially small and helpless in the huge living room.
It seemed like she had become thinner than she had been a few days ago.
“If you have nothing else to tell me, we’ll see each other on the day we get divorced,” she said. “I hope you and Ms. McMillan can live happily ever after.”
The corner of her l*ps lifted into an evil, provocative smile. Straightening her back, she puffed out her chest as she regained control of her jelly–like legs and walked out of the manor adamantly. From NôvelDrama.Org.
‘Stop right there!” Dorian demanded.
Gisele did, but it was only a brief moment before she continued going forward.
“Gisele! I dare you to leave this house!” Dorian’s ferocious threat echoed in the almost
empty living room.
Gisele looked at the door. She was only a few steps away from it. She sighed lightly and turned to walk up the stairs.
“Well, then, I’ll wait until we sign the divorce papers to leave,” she said.
From the start, they had never had anything to talk about. Even that day, he had threatened her most of the time rather than actually talking to her.
It was hilarious. She wanted a divorce, but he didn’t want to agree to it. Instead, he kept

thinking of ways to torture her.
“Gisele,” Dorian hissed, his voice dangerously low.
Gisele went to the second floor and headed straight to her room. After shutting the door, she lay down in bed and wrapped herself in the blanket.
She didn’t even care to change. It was as if the blanket could give her the warmth she yearned for so that she could stop feeling the agony and pain that she had always felt.
Gisele slept until late in the morning the next day. She had slept for such a long time that she woke up with a terrible headache.
After taking a shower, she changed into a fresh set of clothes and headed downstairs to grab something to eat.
As she walked past the couch, she saw Dorian sitting there in his loungewear.
Had he spent the night at the manor?
He leaned on the couch as he scanned the financial section of the newspaper in his hands. A cup of Americano was placed on the coffee table near the couch.
He caught a glimpse of Gisele from the corner of his eye.
“You’ll prepare oatmeal porridge for breakfast today. We’ll have chicken potato soup for lunch,” he said. “Go and prepare them now. Prepare an extra portion and pack it in that lunchbox.”
Gisele found it hilarious how Dorian could boss others around so simply. What made him think that she would prepare all that food for him or even pack an extra portion for Sierra?
She was about to refuse when Dorian’s phone started ringing.
His expression had been gloomy when he had talked to her just moments ago, but it changed the moment he saw the name on the screen.
His gaze turned gentle, and Gisele immediately knew that Sierra was the one who was calling him.
He answered the call. Before he could speak, Gisele raised her voice and, in a playful yet bashful tone, said, “Honey, do you really think it’s a good idea to have chicken potato soup so early in the morning?
She added, “You must’ve been worn out last night!”
