Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Marcus and I had spent the next few hours catching up, his arm firmly wrapped around me as we
laughed and cried together. Although I did most of the crying, I had seen the emotions in his eyes that
were undeniable. I laid next to him on the bed now, quietly staring at the ceiling and allowing myself to
bask in his warmth.
"How does your chest feel?" I asked him, wondering how he was able to move and talk this much
despite the damage that he had taken from me
"Oh, it's fine. It'll be healed before the end of tomorrow, I'm sure. I feel a sharp pain there once in a
while but nothing I can't handle." He responded. I winced, looking up at him
"I'm really sorry about that. I still have no idea why I did that. It was like I-"
"Like you weren't yourself." he completed and smiled at me "You were. Just not one you're familiar
with. It was probably my fault for coming close to you the way I did."
"What does that even mean? It seems like you know much more about this than I do."
"About what?"
I raised my hand, bending it into a gun form "Yknow zap zap, boom boom." He began to laugh, the
vibrations of his body passing to me and out of embarrassment, I sat up and sulked. "Don't laugh at
me. That was the only way I could describe it!"
"Zap zap, boom boom? How intelligent," he said jokingly
"I should have put that spear deeper inside you, shouldn't I?"
"You've become so violent over the years. Is it because of your mate?"
"I'm not violent. Just very expressive." I tried to keep the heat from rising to my cheeks
"Sure." His eyes were shining as they gazed at me, a grin on his face "Your powers got activated for
one reason alone; your mate."
Wait, what?
"What do you mean? What does Alexander have to do with anything?"
"Once in a while, werewolves are born with powers that they say, were gifted to them from heavenly
beings and the orders of fate." He started "These werewolves are always female and as a safety
precaution, their powers do not activate until they've met their mate. Think of it like a time bomb, when
the time comes for it to explode, there's really no stopping it. Unless of course, a wire were to be cut,
meaning unless you died. Also, the more time spent near them, the more your powers mature."
Heavenly beings? Orders of fate? If he didn't have a serious expression on his face, I'd have burst out
laughing. I'm sure I looked at him he had grown two heads.
"I'm not understanding any of this." I said, genuinely confused
"There are many things I need to teach you. That's why I decided I couldn't keep away any longer. If I
hadn't sneaked in the period your mate wasn't around, I probably wouldn't have gotten a chance to
meet you again. To answer your question from before simply, you attacked me because you detected
me as a threat because, in a way, we have the same wavelength of energy."
Marcus had explained to me how on the night of the accident, he had not been able to interfere
because of Xander's arrival. He had gone off to investigate the people that had attacked us and found
that they had connections to this cult group that was obsessed with me. They and the ones that had
gone around cutting down girls that looked like me. Xander would have to take some time out to listen
to Marcus and the scary things he had found out. He hadn't been able to enter the pack easily due to This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Xander's presence, for some reason.
Now that he explained, did this mean that my powers had come out that night because of Xander's
presence? Thinking about it irritated me because that meant he really was like a knight in shining
armour. If he hadn't found me that day, everyone in the car might have...
"There's nothing wrong with it." I looked back at him as he grabbed my hand, his fingers prying my
hand open
"What?" I asked
His finger began to draw a random pattern on my palm, so slowly that it almost tickled "This connection
between your mate and your powers. There's nothing wrong with it. I believe it's what the very first
woman to gain these powers wanted as well."
"How do you know that?"
"I just do."
I stared at him, hoping that he would elaborate further but he continued to draw patterns on my palm
and remained silent. It occurred to me suddenly that around the same time I had gained these powers
and met Xander, I had begun to have the most vivid dreams of a life that was not my home. It wasn't so
important to mention to Marcus but my memories of a man I didn't know swam through my mind time
and time again.
The most powerful memory; how he whispered my name.
"Is it possible for someone to be alive more than once? To have lived more than one life?" I asked
instead, quietly. His finger paused its movement on my palm and when I lifted my eyes, I found his
gaze on me. His eyes that looked nothing like mine were wide and surprised "Um sorry, that was
probably a stupid question."
I tried to laugh it off. Maybe I was paranoid. Despite thinking that I was, I kept having the nagging
feeling that I was holding on to precious memories and thoughts that didn't belong to me. In a way they
did, but they were so detached from me that it felt so wrong to be in possession of them.
"Stop beating yourself up." he said, his grip on my hand tighter and reassuring "Your mate is almost
here. Although I've enjoyed your company, I think it's time I got some rest."
He let go of my hand and relaxed further into the bed, smiling at me again. His smiles were not playful
nor arrogant, just so genuinely kind that it would make you gravitate towards him. I stood up from the
bed and for a quick moment, hesitated. What if he wouldn't be here when I returned?
"I will be." he said, "When you return, I'll be right here."
"Are you reading my mind?" I answered, sounding like I was slightly freaked out. He chuckled lowly as I
lifted the covers over him
"I can only alter memories Avaline. Not my fault you wear your heart on your sleeve." He grabbed my
hand one more time and gave it one last squeeze "Go to him."
At that point, I couldn't describe what those words did to me. They tugged at my heartstrings and finally,
I was able to push myself out of the room. The halls were very quiet when I stepped out, only with two
guards who greeted me as I came out. The air felt heavy and chilly, making me wrap my arms around
my torso. What was the time?
'Keira?' I called out as I began to walk. There was no answer but I knew whenever she came to, she'd
hear everything 'I wish you didn't have to leave and I've come to realise that it's because of who I am. I
promise I'll find a way...'
My ears tuned out the numerous conversations around me as I walked. My feet carrying on according
to memory.
"I'll find a way for us to never be apart."
Now that Marcus was here, there was a chance I'd get to learn more of how to control my powers, how
to control them and how to keep them from suppressing my wolf. Now I knew, there was a
way.
