Nelly’s eyes glinted with a strange intensity as she continued toying with Boss. “Alpha Kilian is my ex-husband, you see.”
Boss’s startled expression morphed into a mix of confusion and curiosity. Yet, despite the undeniable pain pulsating through his chest, his wolf-like instincts urged him to dig deeper. “Is that all?”
Nelly, still maintaining an air of nonchalance, calmly devoured her meal. A mischievous smile crept onto her lips as she deliberately acted torn. Her delicate brows knitted together, creating a facade of innocence. “Let me put it this way, Alpha Kilian and I had a little thing called matrimony.”
Boss’s eyes narrowed, his intrigue growing with each passing second. He couldn’t help but watch her closely, waiting for the next piece of the puzzle.
Lost in thought, Nelly finally spoke, her voice dripping with casualness. “We married a few years ago, but he turned out to be quite the jerk. Divorce became the only option.”
Despite the unbearable pain gripping his chest, Boss felt an insatiable curiosity. He observed Nelly’s serene demeanor and couldn’t help but feel captivated by her words. “That’s all?”
Nelly nodded dismissively, a tinge of amusement flickering in her eyes. “Indeed. That’s all.” Boss stared at her, his mind swirling with confusion and bewilderment.
“Perhaps I wasn’t quite as pleasing to the eye back then. Is that why he disliked me?” Nelly chuckled softly, her words laced with bitterness. “It seems that all men judge women solely on their appearance. But honestly, I couldn’t care less about such superficial matters.”
Boss regarded her, confusion etched across his features. How could someone like her ever be considered anything less than stunning? He had seen countless women, both in his travels and in the Entertainment world, but Nelly’s beauty was unparalleled. It perplexed him to hear her describe herself as ugly.
Nelly pondered for a moment before responding, a hint of uncertainty in her voice. “Perhaps I simply lacked the skills to enhance my appearance back then. But I’ve come to realize how tedious and time-consuming it is to constantly primp oneself. Donna really had a way of drilling it into me.”
However, Boss remained unconvinced. How could someone as breathtaking as her ever be considered ugly? Even without a trace of makeup, she exuded an indescribable allure, her porcelain skin glowing with natural radiance. It was impossible for him to tear his eyes away.
“So, you’re saying you don’t love him anymore?” Boss questioned, his voice laced with curiosity.
Nelly frowned for a moment, her face a mask of contemplation. “I did love him, once upon a time.”
“And now?”
A wave of indifference washed over Nelly’s features. “The moment we divorced, I stopped loving him. Love can only endure so much hurt and disappointment. Why should I continue to love someone who once despised me?” She turned the question back to Boss.
Boss stared at her, skepticism coloring his eyes.
A few moments later, a sly grin danced its way onto his lips. “If you no longer love him, why do you allow yourselves to remain entangled? He would willingly sacrifice his life for yours.”
Nelly’s heart skipped a beat, her mind racing to decipher the thoughts that had led Boss to this conclusion. But for the time being, she could only continue with her facade of nonchalance.
“You’re right. In the past, he tried everything to get rid of me. And now, he’ll resort to any means necessary to have me.”
Boss, unaware of the turmoil brewing within Nelly, mused with conviction. “Should I help you rid yourself of him?”
Nelly was momentarily taken aback. She locked eyes with Boss, her silence speaking volumes.
“What’s the matter? Does your heart ache for him?” Boss taunted, the pain etched on his face. His yellow pupils seemed to glimmer, as if he could peer into the recesses of her mind.
“If you truly wish to kill him, go ahead. But don’t drag me into this and use me as an excuse. I won’t lose myself in a relationship. Alpha Kilian Morris is not the only man in this world. All I want is to part ways amicably.” Nelly’s words held an icy indifference.
Boss, undeterred by her apathy, pressed on. “You’ve said so much, but you still won’t admit you want him dead, huh?”
Nelly met his gaze with a graceful nod. “If that’s how you see it, then I guess there’s nothing more to say.” She remained unaffected, as if the idea of Alpha Kilian’s demise held no significance to her.
“I did some digging on you and Alpha Kilian back when I was with the Moonwalk pack, and things didn’t quite align with what you’re saying now.”
Nelly smiled, her expression enigmatic. “Is that so?”
Boss’s eyes searched her face, longing for answers.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
“I know Alpha Kilian better than anyone. He may appear faithful, but it’s all a facade for the world to see. He’s a master of pretense,” she revealed.
“But some things cannot be faked,” Boss countered.
