A Pursuit of Beloved Wife

Yuexi sits on the floor, her loneliness infinitely magnified by the empty room, but she holds back her tears.

After a long while, Yuexi decides to leave again. She keeps telling herself to accept the inevitable and learn to face the music, but she just can’t bear the loneliness.

She is back onto the street, roaming aimlessly alone. She walks like a drunkard. Dazed and blinded by the glare produced by the headlights of the car coming from the opposite direction, she can’t see anything. Before she realizes what happens, she suddenly finds herself dragged back from behind by somebody. She is shocked, then she sees a car speeding by.

She then realizes that somebody saved her. She turns around to see who it is. What a coincidence!

“Gong Benli?”

Gong Benli looks at Yuexi with a concerned look, “Of course it’s me.” Yuexi flushes and greets him, “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

” It is a small world.” As he says, seeing the green light on, he takes Yuexi’s hand and walks across the street.

On the other side of the road, Gong Benli stops and asks Yuexi, “Have you had your lunch? If not, let’s have lunch together.” Yuexi nods and walks behind him like an obedient child. They come into a restaurant. After they take their seats, Gong Benli begins to order foods, then he just sits there, looking at Yuexi without saying another word.

Yuexi lowers her head like a kid who knows she has made a mistake, not daring to look at him.

They remain silent for a long while, and then Yuexi speaks first, “I am very grateful, you saved my life, if it weren’t for you, I must be lying in hospital now.”

Gong Benli holds a stern face, his tone not as gentle as before, “I can’t happen to be by your side and save you every time you are in danger.”

“I will be careful next time. I promise this kind of thing will never happen again. By the way, how come you were here? ” Yuexi puts on a saccharine smile.

Yuexi feels much better now. Then she walks into a shopping mall alone and spends the whole afternoon there.

When Chen Ying returns home after work, she sees many shopping bags lying in the living room. “What happened? This is not like you, buying so many things at a time.”

Yuexi’s voice comes from the kitchen, “I’ve decided, I’ll stay with you for a while, so I bought some necessities. Okay, the meal is ready, wash your hands and eat.”

Then she grunts with her mouth full. ” You know, I have such a tight schedule that I don’t even have enough time for a meal. Let alone cooking meals for you. It’s fine now. With you here, I can have good meals every day.”

Yuexi smiles and gives her a bowl of soup, “Eat slowly, it’s not good for your stomach.”

“Oh, you are such a good cook! It’s really delicious! You are even better than those professional chefs in five-star hotels.”

Yuexi stops her, “Okay, okay, don’t flatter me, if you keep praising me like that, I will fly to the sky.”

Chen Ying laughs and doesn’t speak any more, focusing on the food in front of her.

Yuexi’s phone rings suddenly. She picks up the phone and takes a look. Instead of answering it immediately, she frowns.

Chen Ying casts a curious glance at her. Yuexi gives her the phone, and it is from Li Ya.

Chen Ying grabs the phone, tosses it aside, and continues to eat. The phone rings for a while and then stops. After a pause of less than 2 seconds, it rings again, and Chen Ying stops Yuexi who wants to answer the phone.

“Why answer it? I guess she has already received a subpoena from the court at this time. She must be in a bad mood, so ignore her.”

Yuexi glances at the mobile phone that rings again. She hesitates for a moment, but does not pick it up, letting it ring all the time.

The phone rings on and on, and finally even Chen Ying’s cell phone also rings. Nobody knows how she gets her number. But it doesn’t make any difference.
