A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married

Chapter 30 It Is the Shittiest Luck You Could Ever Get!

Chapter 30 It Is the Shittiest Luck You Could Ever Get!

At the Kahl's Mansion.

In City C, if the Lamont family was the giant standing on top of the pyramid, then there was no doubt

that the Kahl's was the one standing right next to it.

Though, by the time Maverick took over the family business, the two important names of Lamont and

Kahl had stopped appearing next to each other for quite some time.

But it was not the case back in the days when Jenson and Will were almost brothers,

Who had known each other from day one and stayed friends for many years to come. They did not

choose each other to be friends. They just happened to be born into important families and living in the

same world.

Years after, when the two boys became fathers, it wouldn't be a surprise that they might want to share

a grandson.

However, when the time came, Maverick, Will's only son, was having second thoughts since it wasn't

exactly his promise to keep from the very start. Jenson, without an heir to take his place and take over

the family business, was getting desperate and almost despicable, trying to pull some strings and make

this marriage work.

Well, for Maverick, an unbinding verbal agreement between parents meant nothing to him.

And before long, the rest of the world seemed to have gotten the idea and they were not going to sit

tight and wait for the opportunities to cooperate with the Lamont's. Since then, the Kahl family was out

of picture.

However, Jenson, in his prime, was not to be crossed with. He was known for his ruthlessness and

self-importance in the business world, which nevertheless made himself quite some enemies. It was

just that back then not a lot of people had a say in this.

But now, everything was different. Every mansion would finally crumble, just like the kings who would

come and go.

By now, Jenson was not the man with an iron fist that he used to be anymore. His counterparts in the

business world would only sit with him on the same table because of the connection he had with the

Lamont family.

But now when Maverick came back from abroad and made his point clear by shutting Jenson out, no

mercy was spared for the Kahl family in this cruel world.

Jenson slapped the newspaper away on the floor, then kicked over the tea table right in front of him

furiously,

When Miley, his daughter, was just coming down from the stairs. "What was that about? Didn't you just

get up from bed?" Miley walked towards his father with a trot.

Finding out that Maverick had once again stolen his business deal when he was about to close it,

Jenson was furious and outraged.

Then when he laid eyes on his daughter, he had found the perfect one to blame, "Where the hell is

your sister?"

Miley immediately figured what it is about, "Well, she's over at Maverick's, helping him with his baby

girl. I thought you knew."

Filled with anger, Jenson took on a sinister and vicious look, "Damn it. Helping him with his baby girl?

Your sister is nothing but a joke to Maverick. I expected nothing else from the two of you but one thing

—make him yours. And you know what? You two have done a great job doing the exact opposite.

Because there's new girl now, his secretary! It used to be Jayden around him."

Miley was actually cool with his father undermining his sister like this. She kind of agreed.

But when she found out that there was a new secretary, a woman,

Something popped into her mind, "The new secretary. Is she called Everly?"

At this moment, Jenson's chest was still heaving violently, and when he heard the name, he didn't react

to it.

Miley sat on the sofa and said, "I know her name. She was a Farley and the younger sister of Hendrix,

the head of SY Corp. Dad, they are the one that did this to us. I told you that we need to watch out for

Hendrix. But you refused to listen to me. Now see? He's sending his sister to seduce Maverick."

Jenson kind of saw the point.

Hendrix had a sister? He really didn't know that.

Now she was the secretary standing right next to Maverick?

But the Kahl family and the Farley family never had much to do with each other. They had nothing

against us. Besides, Maverick couldn't just shut us out completely. It was more complicated than that.

"Where did you get this news?" Jenson asked.

Miley fiddled with her sapphire-blue nails and said, "Sister, you knew it too. Go ahead. You can ask her.

That Farley girl was the one who got between sis and Maverick. And I have just the perfect way to get

back on her."

Actually, Miley had long wanted to make a move on Everly, but too bad she really had nothing on her.

Whatever happened to Everly back in the States, Hendrix must have made sure that no one was ever

going to find out about it.

But Miley had her name. It could be a start. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

Miley Kahl recalled seeing Hendrix in some fancy parties. There was no doubt that he was way too

young, but in no way he could make an easy target.

She didn't want to mess with the wrong man. So she was still having second thoughts.

But now her father was on board with her. She was not going to chicken out so easily any more.

Everly knew it was not going to be the best day of her life, since she bumped into Lucas.

Then it turned out that the unfortunate encounter with Lucas was not the worst part just yet. When

Everly got into the elevator, the tail of her dress got caught between the elevator doors,

Which was about five minutes ago.

She hurried into the company, still holding a cup of hot coffee in her hand. Since she was going to be

late, she wanted to give it a try and squeeze herself into the elevator.

Though it was quite crowed already,

She managed to get in. The people standing next to her didn't really like it.

But that was just how it was done. If you wanted to keep your job.

Then the worst part finally came. When she tried to turn around and face the entrance, she realized

that her dress got caught in between the elevator doors.

But it was too late, the tail of her dress was ripped apart with an almost funny sound.

And as her hand trembled, the coffee she was holding over her chest got spilled on her collarbone and

later streamed down into her clothes.

Everly's thoughts went blank for a minute.

And immediately she was swallowed by awkwardness

And the uncomfortable silence.

This elevator was crowded with at least a dozen people.

Everyone looked at each other for a minute and then they all laid their eyes on Everly's funny face,

Which almost instantly turn red.

Then she felt a chill creeping on her thighs and something burning on the skin of her chest, so she

looked down and saw the coffee stain, which was only getting more noticeable.

I mean, it couldn't get any worse.

What was even more upsetting was the fact that nobody around her offered any help. All she had got

was their unfriendly stares and looks.

Right now, Everly would give anything even if it was only a coat to cover herself with.

But for others, she was the lucky one. Selected to be Mr. Lamont's secretary and being the one who

"bump Jayden from the game", she was the one every girl in this company loved and hated.

So it was kind of figured that the new place wasn't exactly treating her well. Women saw her as a

threat, and men undermined her as less-than, someone who climbed her way up with unspeakable

strategies.

The door opened, and the crowd swarmed out.

Then suddenly Everly noticed that some girls were tittering.

She was outraged and couldn't believe how they could be so mean.

'I always thought we women were supposed to help one another and back each other up, isn't it?'

When everyone left the elevator, Everly was still awkwardly trying to salvage this mess. With a hand

holding down the tail of her dress, she childishly made up her mind in her head, 'I will never wear a

dress again!'

The elevator suddenly went down.

Everly forgot about the whole job thing and decided to go home and change first. And as for how to

make it back home, 'my purse might do the trick,' she thought.

But when the elevator landed on the ground floor and the door slowly opened, she was still struggling

to make herself seem a little less "naked". The minute she heard the door opening and looked up, she

saw the man standing there with his cold dark eyes that were too familiar to her.

Everly was caught off guard and then screaming to herself, ''I mean, just when you think it's the shittiest

luck you could ever get."
